Experimental Exhibition Space
The Concept
This project explores the architectural space between arrival and destination. It is a conceptual courtyard designed as an immersive transition zone, blending the severe geometry of brutalist concrete with the tranquil, meditative qualities of a water garden. The objective is to create a moment of absolute pause, using heavy, unyielding structural elements to frame a curated experience of stillness and isolation.
Spatial Narrative
The rigid, orthogonal grid of the concrete colonnade and overhead pergola establishes a highly controlled architectural volume. However, this strict geometry is intentionally disrupted by a serpentine stone pathway that floats just above a shallow reflecting pool. This deliberate spatial friction forces a slower, wandering pace, guiding the inhabitant on a fluid, organic journey through an otherwise highly structured and uncompromised environment.
Material & Lighting Logic
The material palette is stripped down to its most elemental forms: raw concrete, carved stone, and water. The atmosphere is heavily dictated by a precise lighting strategy that emphasizes this materiality. Cool, ambient twilight washes over the monolithic concrete, while concealed, warm linear lighting traces the base of the pathways and perimeter walls. This exacting illumination grounds the floating walkway and creates a striking tension between the cold structural shell and the inviting warmth of the path.
Environmental Integration
Rather than simply placing architecture into nature, this design pulls organic elements into a highly controlled architectural frame. Slender bamboo stands soften the heavy concrete pillars, introducing vertical, organic movement to the rigid space. The pebble-lined pool and the solitary, sculptural boulder act as natural anchors, ensuring that the raw, brutalist enclosure feels profoundly connected to the earth.
