Above the City — high-rise living room in warm timber with city views

Interior design · apartment

Above the City

An apartment high up. Warm timber and stone set against a panorama that will out-argue any wall.

When the window holds the whole city, an interior has two options: compete, or give way. This one gives way. The colors are pulled back to timber, stone and wool, and the strongest accent in the living room is the window.

That is why all the furniture is low. Nothing crosses the horizon above seat height — from the sofa the view is unbroken.

Concept

Walnut returns in every room, but each time in a different role: panelling in the living room, a full wall behind the bed, vanity fronts in the bathroom. One material holds four interiors together without repeating the same arrangement.

The bedroom is the darkest room in the apartment. That is deliberate — a room you sleep in doesn’t have to be bright, and dark timber with floor-length curtains does something no blind will.

The bathroom gets the same window as the rest of the apartment. The bath stands against the glass rather than against a wall, and that is the entire concept of the room.

Materials and detail

Timber

American walnut veneer, matt finish. It returns in the living room, bedroom and bathroom as the element that ties them together.

Stone

Strongly veined marble on the side table and the bathroom top. One strong pattern per interior; everything else stays quiet.

Textiles

Wool, linen and bouclé in sand tones. Soft materials where everything else is hard and reflective.

The design happens on visualizations, not on floor plans. You approve what you will actually see — and changes are made on screen, while they are still cheap.
